It's not always' easy talking about mental health, but the conversation can be one of the most important you have with a co-worker.
Jorgen Gullestrup from MATES in Construction will provide valuable insights into simple and practical ways that employers and employees talk about mental health to help provide a support network for a colleague.
The session will cover:
- hands-on experiences from a Connector Champion from the Mates in Construction Program
- practical approaches to initiate conversations about mental health and psychological wellbeing with workers
- strategies utilised by MATES in Construction to empower the workplace to approach mental health conversations with confidence
- transferable skills that can utilised for both preventative and injury management processes

Speaker Jorgen GullestrupIn 2007, MATES in Construction was formed to generate a genuine non-partisan intervention to address the issue of mental health issues and suicide in the construction industry. At this time, Jorgen was appointed Chief Executive Officer of MATES in Construction Queensland.
A plumber by trade, Jorgen Gullestrup became State Secretary of the Queensland Plumbers Union in 2001, with the desire to improve working conditions within the industry.
